Hi, been considering planning a vacation to Maui around mid-April or perhaps early-May 2010. I'm thinking I'll stay for 7 days. I live in central California, and we have our own local airport which connects to San Francisco or Los Angeles which I plan on using.
I read on some site that April/May has the best deals, and it's also the low season which will yield cheaper prices. But I don't know because I've been browsing round-trip plane tickets using kayak, expedia, travelocity, and an assortment of search sites to find tickets as well as airline websites (such as AA, United); and the average plane ticket prices round trip is $700 +.
That just seems expensive to me. That's almost as much as a round trip plane ticket to Japan from either San Francisco or Los Angeles, or a round trip ticket to the Philippines.
What do you guys think? $700.00 seems really expensive right? I was aiming it would cost only $400 to 500.00. Any suggestions on how I may find cheap plane tickets to Maui?
To get the best price you want to fly direct from CA non-stop (SNA, SFX, LAX, SMF, SJC) to Hawaii, none of this connection in CA stuff. Connect through CA and add $100-$200.
Go to airfarewatchdog.com, they post unadvertised prices. You can't purchase from them, but will tell you where you can find the deal. We are flying RT from Atlanta in June for $490 and flew into HNL last June for $362 RT. You can sign up for daily alerts on deal to OGG. That's has worked out the best for us. Good luck, deals seem to come frequently from the west coast.
Why are you asking people on a forum? Got to travelocity, orbitz, etc.
Prices vary by day. Airlines have dropped so many flights that most flights fill up rapidly now.
I was checking on flights in July today for friends who want to visit and kept getting "No available seats" on all kinds of dates I tried.
Jetlagged -- Just saw in the paper that Hawaiian is re-starting direct flights to Oakland and San Diego and is offering discount "introductory" fares with a booking made within the next couple of weeks -- $480 r/t if I recall. Good luck and thanks for coming to visit.
If you go to a site such as travelocity or orbitz - check the boxes for a flight/hotel/car package. You will get a dramatically better price than if you try to piece everything together separately.
studentuniverse.com is great if u have an email address ending in .edu. i got my ticket round trip from peoria (connecting at ohare) to honolulu for $500.
jetlagged: FYI my fair nonstop from NJ to HNL is $686 from continental. we were also thinking of first going to Maui and that fare was much cheaper and $582 via LA...so check out fair directly from Continental....hope this helps
