Have they completed construction at the Crescent at Wolfchase? How does it look? Well made? Cheaply made?

I found this page, along with tenant reviews on another, so it must be open and occupied.

Rental Apartment in Memphis, TN 38133 - Shelby County - From $ 749 per month (http://www.rentals.com/Display.aspx?adid=fb1f1cb8-87eb-462c-ab86-75af85f16905 - broken link)

I toured the Crescent back in the Spring when I was looking for a new apartment. Absolutely awful. The apartments look cheap. The rooms are tiny and are cut strangely. Metal fire sprinklers protrude from the walls in every room. It was perhaps the worst apartment (looks-wise) I have ever seen in my life.

The sprinklers are law, are they not? I'd be worried if I toured a new apt and DIDN'T see sprinklers.

I don't know - these look fine in the pics, they cannot possibly be run down, ghetto, falling apart, trashy on the inside. At least not yet! If these are the worst apts you've ever seen looks-wise...feel lucky! I could only guess that most of the apts in Memphis look just like it or worse ...these look like stereotypical new apt complex construction. Which, agreed - usually means they are cheaply made.

Sprinklers can be installed in better places. You have to see it to understand.

No, the apartments are not 'run-down' or 'ghetto' -- they are brand new. However, based on the price, the fact that they are taking Section 8, and the fact that the area has been annexed into the city, I have no hesitation in saying that they will be 'run down' and 'ghetto' sooner rather than later.

BTW, of all the pictures on that site you linked to, Pearlbob, only one is from the inside of an actual apartment. (It's the one of the bed.) The remainder were taken in the office/clubhouse building.

Really? How fake.

To the OP: if you are really wanting to make a "home" out of a residence, I'd steer clear of generic large apt complexes like this. They will have people moving in and out every week around you, you'll have new neighbors constantly, and you will have no control over anyone moving in. Big complexes like this, at least here in Memphis, are filled with young people, college students, families with lots of kids that can't afford a home, etc etc. It makes living there a headache. I think a 60 year old (I can't quite remember your age) would NOT enjoy being in this type of place whatsoever.

I know you were considering before about senior residences, which I think is the way to go. Or, you should consider renting a house or duplex. That way, at least you will be in a residential neighborhood, have fewer neighbors to worry about, people won't be moving in and out of houses like they do apts, and possibly have a home owners association to protect you in case some bad neighbors move in.

This is 100% untrue. They do not accept Section 8 vouchers. I'm not sure where you got your information but according to the leasing office, they are not accepted.

I thought it was a shelby/memphis law that all apartments must accept section 8?

No, that's not true either. All apartment complex owners have the option to enter into an agreement/contract with the federal government to provide Section 8 housing, but it is in no way required. Now obviously no landlord can discriminate against potential tenants, provided they meet the financial requirements, but Section 8 is purely optional.
