We will drive from NOLA to Chicago and plan to stop in Memphis for a late lunch and St Louis for late dinner and hotel. Any recommendation for a good BBQ place along the highway in or near Memphis?
Thanks!

If this is your 1st time through Memphis, you certainly want to stop in the downtown area and eat at The Rendezvous. You'll come in to town on I-55. See the map below for directions. After you're finished with lunch, you can hit I-40, cross the bridge and get back on I55 to St Louis.

I'd take Neely's Interstate BBQ over Rendezvous. 2265 S. 3rd Street. Coming up I-55 simply take the 3rd Street exit going north...Interstate BBQ is just a couple of blocks north of I-55 on your left.

Interstate is definitely some good Q. Not the biggest fan of Neely's these days, but then again, it's ok.

There's also an Interstate BBQ in Southaven. It will be the Stateline Road exit. Go right (East) and it is 2 or 3 lights on your left. If you make it to Airways then you have gone a little too far. The BBQ spaghetti is awesome!!!!

Memphis BBQ is in Horn Lake. That will be the Goodman Road exit in Southaven. Go left over I-55 and it will be on the right. It is owned by a couple of guys that have won the Memphis in May BBQ contest multiple times. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives was there a couple of weeks ago filming a segment.

Those looking to sample Memphis Style BBQ should know that Rendezvous ribs are not of that type. They are grilled with a rub applied, not slow smoked for many hours and sauced. The place should be visited at least once however for the atmosphere. Most diners like the product who try it.

Central BBQ on Central Ave in Memphis has some of the best barbecue in Memphis. Yes, Rendezvous is great for its atmosphere, but you can get nice atmosphere anywhere. You want GOOD barbecue. Neely's yes they are on Food Network and their bbq is decent but still nothing to write home about if you ask me. Try Central, you will not be disappointed and their potato salad is to die for too! Yum

I agree. When I lived in Memphis I always took out-of-town visitors to Interstate BBQ.

Thank you so much for all your suggestions. We passed through Memphis around 3pm and we had some food on the way before getting there. Too bad we were in a hurry so did not stop this time. I will be sure to try Interstate BBQ and The Rendezvous next time when I visit Memphis.
