Damn, this city is about to go backwards and stop picking up yard waste/furniture and go to every other week garbage pickup. It's going to look like a dump in no time.

Well the plan being talked about would be to get the bins every other week. Guess recycling would be picked up then also. Then 3 times a year they would pick up yard waste and other big items.
The savings would go into a pension for the city sanitation workers who agreed years ago to opt out of paying into the city pension fund for higher salaries. I'm guessing their salaries won't go down now nor will they be required to work more than 4 hours like they do now.

I always check/update Earth911.org for places to recycle. Most moving boxes I get rid of via craigslist or freecycle. Sometimes your local UPS will take the packing. However here in Memphis I live in a multi household building downtown which as someone said does not have recycling. Since 2006 I have taken all my recycling out to the company that subcontracts the recycling for the city. They are located at 3197 Farrisview. The accept glass, metals and almost all forms of plastic, paper, cardboard. This is the type of place where you want to tour the facility and they are happy you like to recycle. They have bins outside their gates and you can drop after hours. Current city contractor is ReCommunity Recycling. I'd call them for specifics: 901-795-6886
