Look no further than Mud Island and Harbor Town. Tons of apartments, beautiful river views, very safe, great for walking and biking, cute little neighborhood downtown area in Harbor Town. Downtown right across the Harbor Town bridge. Lots of young people all over. Hard to beat.

I like the Harbor Town suggestion in this case. You could rent for a while to see if you like it before you made a purchase.

Thank you for all the responses. They have helped me narrow down my search, and it appears that midtown may be the best area for me. I will be sure to post any potential rental locations on here as I begin looking at them.
