Hi all,

I recently moved to Nashville! I am hoping to make a visit to your wonderful cool exciting city soon...I love the Blues...I was just wondering do you guys in Memphis come to visit Nashville when you go on trips? Btw, does anyone in Memphis even consider a trip to the east side of TN (to explore the mountains)? Or do you just stay on the western side and explore other places out there. Thanks for any thoughts on this! Looking forward to coming to visit soon

Hi joeasher -

Welcome to Tennessee! Yes, I often take trips to Nashville. It's a nice little weekend getaway and could even be a day trip if you wanted it to be. Many people around here take vacations to the mountains, specifically, Pigeon Forge.

Let us know if you need any suggestions on places to visit!

Many people here go to Nashville...not especially for a "vacation" but it seems like people go to see friends, family, take a day trip for a specific event, etc. I think Nashville is a too close to consider it a vacation spot for Memphians.

Many people travel to east TN for vacations.

While Nashville is booming economically, I can't say there's much there I'd want to see or do on a vacation there. I do like East Tennessee a lot though. Chattanooga is a great town for a getaway. The Smokies are beautiful also, but the traffic and development in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is a mess. I've been to many National Parks and no other one has such an unsightly collection of tacky tourist clutter just outside the park perimeter.

Recently returned from a trip to Nashville, Franklin and Chattanooga (along with Bowling Green and Louisville KY).

My wife and I usually visit Nashville a couple of times a year for a long weekend. I always visit the Lane Motor Museum. My wife usually visits a couple of quilt shops. Sometimes we meet friends from Marietta GA so the guys can play golf while the ladies shop - then we spend some time down on Broadway.

We usually visit the Gatlinburg area every year as well...not for the tourist stuff on the Parkway, but to do some hiking in the park, visit the Arts Loop, etc.

Other trips have been Cookeville (a few times), Knoxville, Johnson City, Bell Buckle, Jonesborough, Townsend...and a bunch of other places. Lots to see - and a lot of variety - in Tennessee!
