Help me settle a debate with some friends of mine.

Is S Germantown Rd off of Winchester considered Hickory Hill , East Memphis, Germantown or all the above?

I believe this area is districted to Southwind High School.

If someone was relocating from elsewhere to Memphis, is this an area you’d recommend?

I guess I'd consider it maybe "East Hickory Hill".....certainly not Germantown. It's not an area that has ever appealed to me, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be perfect for someone else. There is no substitute for actually visiting an area, driving around (including surrounding areas) and forming your own opinion.

I agree with this. Also certainly wouldn't be considered "East Memphis" by most everyone's understanding of East Memphis. Just too far Southeast of the core of East Memphis in my opinion.

To me this is Hickory Hill. It's too influenced by the crime sprawl from the west, and it's on the same major road as HH mall.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to relocate to this area, not that it's overtly dangerous, but rather knowing the dynamics of the local society and housing markets, I feel that the future of housing prices in this neighborhood may be somewhat volatile.

In my experience, it's usually black residents who (wrongly) refer to this area and to Hickory Hill as "East Memphis," when if it's anything, it would be SOUTHeast Memphis, or just Hickory Hill.

The REAL East Memphis is the area that runs from Poplar and Highland all the way down and around Poplar and through the 240 Corridor until you reach Germantown City Limits. That is a COMPLETELY different world from Hickory Hill/Southeast Memphis. I really don't know how or why Hickory Hill/Southeast Memphis started getting labeled as "East Memphis,' but it most certainly is not.

I'd call it Hickory Hill, and maybe Southwind. Definitely not Germantown. Touching another city with a different zip code doesn't imply you're a part of that area.

I talked to someone in law enforcement about this area a few years ago, and they told me that area is quickly becoming one of the most violent in the county.
