I have been to Colorado and then to the Sugar/Beach Mtn area of NC and also Snowshoe in WV.

Snowboarding in Colorado
My personal favorite mountain is Beaver Creek. They have just about everything you want out of a resort. Plus there are some really affordable places to stay in Avon, Co. The Christie Lodge being my favorite. If you come out make sure you check out

I agree, once you have skied the Rockies, everything else is second-rate skiing wise.
