I am not a people person by any means. I grew up without any siblings, and I didn't have many friends, so I wasn't exposed to many people. I'm one of those people who will notice someone looking their way, and will go 'oh dear lord, they're looking at me, am I making a weird face?!'
But I digress. I have never liked to receive gifts. Well, I like receiving gifts, but not opening them in front of anyone. I hate having to react, as I am not an emotional person. As my doctor once put it: “you don't show how you're feeling on your face”, so it's hard to suddenly put on a face, especially a fake one if I don't like the gift. I am also not much of a vocal person, so having to say “Oh, I love it!” is not my forte.
Is this normal, hating receiving gifts? I love to give them, love to see people's faces, but receiving them is horrible to me.
I used to feel that way too, it made me feel awkward, because when I was a kid, every time I ever received a birthday or christmas present from someone, my mother would tell me what an ungrateful and undeserving little brat I was, or if it was money, she would take it away and keep it for herself. So getting gifts always had a negative vibe for me. But now I just say "Thank you" and I have learned to accept things from others without feeling guilty.
It is alright to dislike gifts and all of the emotional baggage it brings it is as though one must act as if we are indebted to the giver at that moment. To accept gifts with great grace is sometimes difficult.
Next Christmas, message me and I can help you out , just send the gifts to me.
Seriously, cheap gifts are the hardest to accept. With effort and practice your people skills will improve.
Expensive gifts are far,far easier to accept. Why, some mechanical devices as
gifts can even raise sexual arousal in women, chief among these is the Mercedes-Benz 380SL.

Pretty much this. You just have to wear the gift opening facade. While I've received a few very nice Christmas gifts over the years, many of them have fallen into the category of: this is an obvious re-gift and I had to find something to give to you. It's not pleasant.

I got a tub of popcorn!! What does that say??? I hate popcorn!!! And I got it from a person who probably felt obligated to give me a gift. To me that says, "eh, I don't like you but here is your stupid gift!" A tub of popcorn is something reps give to their clients. That's a "thank you for doing business with me," gift..
