Hello,

I lived with my wife and daughter in San Jose Del Cabo last year for 6 months. We enjoyed out time thoroughly and want to return.

We know how safe it is in Los Cabos but are concerned about driving through TJ and Ensenada. We know once we get further south we will be fine.

We will of course drive across the border early in the day and stay in hotels - take 3-4 days to get to Cabo.

Do you feel this plan is safe? I am sure we would be conspicuous with our Canadian plates.

Any advice is appreciated.

Russ

I don't see why that would be an issue, since Baja California is not affected as much from the drug violence compared with the rest of Mexico plus there has been a crackdown on police corruption there.

However it is essential that you get Mexican Auto Insurance first and avoid any nightime driving.

Don't sweat it.
We are heading down to our place in Bahia de Los Angeles for a few days then on to Loreto, a couple of weeks in La Paz with an overnight in Cabo, back up to Punta Chivato for a few nights, stopping for another week in Bahia de Los Angeles, overnight in Estero Beach and then, sadly enough, back into the border line to finish my last year of work before moving to La Paz.
Since you state you are day time driving, especially through the northern corridor, you should be fine.
Of course, there are no absolutes in life.

Sorry for the late response...I thought I would be notified by email of any responses but didn't get an email.

Just wanted to say thanks for the feedback from everybody. If/when I make the trip in the fall I will report back here with my experiences.
