My wife had orthodontic treatment by Zamora Dental in Rosarito Beach Baja california Mexico and we spent almost $1,800 and 1.5 years. We noticed that it seemed like there wasn't much progress, so we went to some san diego orthodontists to consider changing to one of them. Every single one said that they would have to do a full treatment because Zamora didn't even START helping my wife's teeth. They ALL said that the wire was too thin to actually move anything, and that there was too much crowding and Zamora should have pulled a few teeth to make room. Anyway, we have found that all the San Diego Orthodonists are waaay too expensive. So I want to know, is there anybody that has had good experiences with orthodontists in Tijuana or Rosarito? Dr Avila in Rosarito reccomends Dr. Fernando Ibarra Almada, has anybody been treated by him? I looked on the American Association of Orthodontists and saw some names come up. I would really like to know if anybody has had good results from any of these!!???

I would strongly discourage visiting TJ, for either dental work or tourism. A friend at work recently experienced a very scary incident and was very lucky to make it back. He was with a group of friends on a bachelor party at a TJ club, there were burros and girls and all. Probably not a pretty sight. Well, apparently he got a bit overly friendly with one of the women who was part of the "show". One thing led to another.....the next morning he wakes up in a strange hotel room, not remembering how he got there. He is robbed, with no passport or money, naked, and melted sack of ice taped to the side of his jaw. His jaw in absolutely excrutiating pain.

The police report detailed a new and disturbing criminal enterprise in TJ. Full dental root organ harvesting! I'm not making this up! There is a seedy underground market for dental reconstruction medical parts. According to police, it has become a thriving market business in TJ, unfortunately police have been unable to slow this activity down due to the on-going drug war.

Just something to consider if you go down to TJ for some dental work.
