Would you rather live in Cancun or Acapulco? Which more fun? Which has a better nightlife? Which is safer? Is their a better beach city than Cancun or Acapulco?

I think it would take a lot longer to get killed or kidnapped in Cancun.

Having lived in Mexico city and visited Acapulco every three months would have to say that there is more to the place then just a party town. There is more to life then partying every night. Drinking every night can get expensive and after a while tiresome.
Been there and done that. NO logic in getting bombed every night.

Have NOT been to Cancun so have NO idea of the place.

If you just want to live the party lifestyle by the beach I'd say go find a place in Miami. Cost of living in either of these towns for the lifestyle I suspect you want will cost less in Miami and you avoid the hassle of living in Mexico.

They are both relatively safe cities. Cancun is a lot easier on an English only speaker, but Acapulco is a lot more rewarding for someone interested in more than just sun and beach (i.e. culture, sightseeing, etc).

Cancun's beach is arguably more beautiful, more clean and more international.

But Acapulco's beach isn't bath, has more dramatic cliffs, and it's really close to the heartland of Mexican culture and many many interesing towns, and only 4 hours from Mexico City.

Acapulco - more of a real town which has grown organically rather than the planned Cancun - which still has an 'old town' but not much to write home about..

Why are those the only two places considered? I much prefer the clearer and warmer waters of the Caribbean but I wouldn't live in Cancun. Why not Playa del Carmen? Better beaches, less crowded and touristy (except near 5th Street).

Post Acapulco the economical city

Mountains around, Pacific bay in front, low cost decent food. Low cost transportation, except at the airport. 10 km beach with lots of 2-legged attractions, safe night life at Condesa. International banks and stores. A good place to live. 15 years experience. Hollywood stars delight in the '70's. Almost forgot: Wonderful weather most days of the year, rain starts at 02.00h or later, if!

It's a party town. It especially seems to specialize in teen/college parties, Spring Break, that kind of thing. If you want more to your tourism, get out of Cancun, and visit the many archaeological sites in the vicinity, and go snorkeling at various locations along the coast, or off Isla Mujeres, across from Cancun.

I'm a Mexico-buff, but I'd choose neither of them. Or perhaps Mérida near Tulum, an authentic Mexican town by the sea. It's common knowledge Acapulco is one of the most dangerous cities in Mexico. I'd like to know if Mazatlán is as dangerous, has someone an idea ?
