Is their siesta in Mexico like in Spain? Anyone know the average working hours?

From my experience in Campeche, many small business close for a couple of hours in the afternoon, but the big ones do not. I eventually learned to take siestas because the heat really sucks the life out of you (especially in the Yucatan).

The hours may vary depending on the type of business or by city/town. We used to open from 9 am to 1 pm, and reopen from 4 pm to 8 pm. It was an 8-hour workday.

The most extreme siesta I ever saw was in Mendoza, Argentina. The supermarket near my hotel was open 22 hours a day, from 2-pm to noon. Open all night, but closed for siesta.
