So I went on a bike ride to do a little exploring and came across the very creepy and abandoned Miami Marina Stadium on Virginia Key.....After a little googling I found out that the structure was deemed unsafe after Hurricane Andrew came through in 1992.

This place is totally unsecured and very cool. I wanted to do some more exploring but I was by myself in an abanoned area on a mountain bike worth a few thousand dollars...........didn't feel very safe.

I did not see anyone there, but I tried to get in and out of there pretty quickly....I will probably go back with a buddy to check it out again.

I must say it did seem like a place that could be brought back to life....Very cool place and location....

Enjoy the pics...

The mayor made a pledge to rehab it... I guess so far no good.

With the addition of some temporary bleachers, it would be a very good place to host water events if Miami ever decided to go for a summer Olympics.

It is amazing that such a beautiful piece of property has gone for nearly two decades crumbling and falling apart. I remember going to shows there when I was just little back in the 80's. Surely someone could do something with it. good opportunity, I just don't have any money.

It kind of reminds me of a fortress built by Napoleon above the city of Dubronik, Croatia. I climbed the hill up to this old fortress and it was completely abandoned. All dirty and falling apart inside. You would think that somebody would buy the property, renovate and make a tourist attraction out of it. But nope. As it was it was pretty cool to be the only person walking around. But I was kind of creeped out and worried that someone, possibly with a gun or a big dog, would come along and start yelling at me in Croatian and tell me to get the &@$% out!!

I love those pics and the graffiti. This is one of those places I've driven by so many times but never stopped to check out.

One has to wonder why this structure wasn't rehabilitated considering the Billions of dollars the city of Miami & Miami Dade county got from the Federal government in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.

And I thought I'd knew all there was to know about Miami (for a reasonably informed visitor that is). This place escaped my mind....

Apparently the County awarded $3 million in April 2010 to help start the restoration process (though additional funds will be required).
