Looking to move to Miami? You can be sure that the many questions you have have probably been asked by others time and time again. Please do a search prior to starting a new thread and asking questions. You are sure to find the answers you seek already on here. When doing a search you can search by posts instead of threads for more hits.

Here's some information I hope you will find useful and helpful as well. It's a little gift from me to those who are thinking of moving here as I leave and move after calling this place home all my life - almost 50 years.

What area of Miami do you want to move? The following link shows the areas of Miami-Dade County. There are three sections shown, NORTH MIAMI DADE - CENTRAL MIAMI DADE - SOUTH MIAMI DADE. These three areas in Miami Dade County are broken down by zip codes.

http://www.hscmd.org/documents/Neighborhood_Zip_Code_Definitions.pdf

The next link shows one of the better zip code maps of Miami-Dade. It is color coordinated and shows the breakdown of areas on the right side.

This link shows the different areas of Miami Dade County, with those that have been incorporated with links to tell you more about their area. Within that link will be a link tto that cities respective website. The areas which are not incorporated are listed as well (no links)

Want to know if the area you are thinking of moving to is safe:

CrimeView Community (you can check by address, zip, intersection, etc as well as types of crime, you can check all of the options off and you can chose options up to 1.5 miles from your chosen location)

If you have small children, do check the area you're thinking about moving to for Sexual Predators

Miami is very strange. There are very definite racial boundaries in Miami neighborhoods. And the "rough' areas are right next to nice areas. One side of US 1 is upper middle class, cross the street in some areas and you are in a ghetto. Just like that. So, if you don't know Miami, don't rent a place without checking out the area.

I take public transportation every day. I love taking the train. Recently, I met some people who lived here for 20 years, never took the train, ever. Do yourself a favor, live close to the train.

I love the walkability score in my neighborhood. It's a bit lower than Winterfront's, but that's assuming that I'm willing to trespass, swim across canals, and jay-walk across freight train tracks! They really should incorporate Google Maps directions or something similar.
