We recently found out there's a chance we may be moving to the Miami area. We have elementary-age children and are wondering about where to even begin looking. We are coming from great public schools in Texas and would love to find a similar scenario. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

In what area of Miami are you going to be working at? That will be a big factor when deciding where to live. Miami has a lot of traffic and is a very large metropolitan area so you might not want to live very far from where you work.

I think near 1 and SW 88th - looks like it's just north of Pinecrest.

Unfortunately, the Texas scenario (cheap housing/great schools) doesn't exist in Dade. Broward is your only hope. The best schools are good, not great, and housing is very expensive.

Traffic is horrendous in South Florida. In what part of Miami will your husband and/or you be working?

The best place to live in Florida? That seems like an extreme exaggeration. It's not even on the water.

I don't know why so many people on this forum push for Doral. It is way overrated in my opinion. The traffic can't be worse, it is way out west, it is surrounded by warehouses and industrial areas, and it is adjacent and on the flight path of Miami International Airport. The sound of jet engines flying over your house is non-stop day and night 365 days of the year. There are many other areas of Miami that are superior to Doral. The only way that I would consider it is if I worked in that area and wanted a short commute to work.

You should look at Pinecrest, East Kendall, South Miami, and Palmetto bay. Pinecrest is the most expensive but has what is considered the best public schools in Dade county.
