Now, I'm starting to miss it. The area I live in now is all practically owned by my university, and I can't escape these prep-school drones. There is no diversity whatsoever, my school is pretty much all "white" and from Conneticut. I have never been around this before and because of where my university is, I'm far as **** from the city.

This isn't a race issue, but a cultural one, I miss the different "groups" in Miami, and the diverse backgrounds of the Americans and Non-Americans. Instead of Prep-school, expensive college, never been poor backgrounds of everyone I'm around right now.

I miss Miami so much right now. The immigrant experience, the fun people, the fun places, the reasonable prices, the laid back attitude. I can't believe I'm saying this.

Has anyone else been through this? Please talk me out of this
Well it's normal to idealize the past, especially when you are still new to a city and haven't had time to build the same relationships that took years to establish in other places

Enjoy your time, finish school. You won't know how you really feel about Miami until you come back.

I already have relationships here from growing up in Boston and I'm realizing those were the relationships I idealized the most

Teufelgot: What do you mean relocated? My only living immediate family is my mother and she is in Miami. She's not from Boston but lived there from the age of 20-50
_______

Relocated:

Cubans that were moved to other states back in the early 60's. Relocation policy.

Most I know were professional and most moved back to Miami way back. In some cases, their children, grandchildren live in penguin territories. I know some that live in the weirdest places you can imagine.

I knew a Cuban family in OR that was sent with the Relocation Policy and just stayed. I wouldn't consider that penguin though. Maybe the Dakatos, Minnesota, etc.

I see. I still think you might need more time to adjust, maybe built new relationships. On average(because there are always exceptions) The young white college kids from other states are a tough crowd. Maybe you will relate better to international, minority and older students who are more mature and easier to relate to.
