That unfortunately is not something that most people live by these days.

They are the ones that should be embarassed. Bad manners not to RSVP. It isn't an American thing though.

Have you ever noticed that people who complain about other people being rude are actually the rude ones?
like, TOTALLY!

yep. The Golden Rule mom taught us at age 5 applies.....i have zero issues with the general population here, no matter what culture they're from or what language they speak - i'm friendly and kind to everyone whether it's at the bank, or a bodega where no english is spoken, and i've been routinely treated with freindliness, and even humor, in shops, restaurants, gas stations, grocery stores, fancy areas and the hood, and even from strangers on the street. just the other night i'd exhausted myself working out, so i went to sit down on a bench, was doubled over trying to catch my breath .... and 3 different people, total strangers, asked if i was OK and could they help - this has been my typical experience here (and pretty much everywhere in the world I have ever lived.) imho it's cause of my own attitude and approach, and doesn't have much at all to do with "the place" I happen to be located in.
