So I am from the Broward area and looking for work in Miami Beach. If I do get a job there *fingers crossed* I'd need to get an efficiency/studio asap. There is no way in hell I'd commute from Broward. Anyway I love Miami Beach. What my question is, are there efficiencies/studios that run around $500-$600? Is that unrealistic for Miami Beach? Thoughts?

I've been looking online and I haven't seen any, but that's not to say that they aren't there. You might have better luck locating buildings that have efficiencies and contacting the owner or landlord directly. I bet there are a ton of apartments that aren't advertised online that are available.

Not for 500-600. The lowest you'll find is more like 750. 500-600 is possible in Little Haiti and Liberty City, but I doubt you'd want to live there... With a roommate it may be possible to find something still close to Miami Beach and in a more desirable area.

$500?? You want to live in the US still, right? $500 isn't going to cut it in ANY city, especially not MB!

Yeah no lil haiti for me, i'd only live in MB or Sunny Isles area, haha. A roommate is a possibility but I have trust issues, guess I have to overcome that!

Anything like that on Craigslist is most likely a scam. $800 and up is probably the minimum for a legit place.

----

I remember distinctly that an efficiency in Collins, in a roach palace owned by a sinister old woman, was worth 250 dollars more than 30 years ago....

An efficiency with kitchette in one of those Art Deco in SB with 200 violations of the fire code, 350 to 400...

So I'd say that the price nowdays has more than doubled, 800, 900, 1000, 1500.

500-600/month in the areas you want, would most likely only be possible with a roommate. After doing this same search myself within the past year, I'd say it's next to impossible to think you'll find an individual studio or efficeincy for that price.

but in any case - you're only a short drive up the road - just come down here and look around. there are many more places with 'for rent' signs physically posted, than there are advertised. that's how i found my place - i did check on all the websites, but none of them were as effective as the old-fashioned method of pounding the pavement; a lot of places are still 'old school' and don't use the internet to rent their units.

i'd love to take a look at the CL ad you mention for 550 ... can you post it here?

Yeah, thinking about it that is kinda shady since you can't even rent a room in Broward for that price.

I see, I mean MB has a lot of money so to find a decent place in that area would be a little pricey too! I'm living in fantasyland! haha

Yeah I think it would make more sense to do some searching on my own. Luckily I live pretty close by to take a stroll down there and see what's up. I always cannot rely on the internet and it also helps if I know someone who knows a friend who is friend with this guy who is renting out this place.

How is your living situation by the way? Do you live with a roommate or have your own place?

This is the ad by the way:

550 One Efficiency Miami Beach (http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/apa/2891398913.html - broken link)

I have my own place - actually i'm very near the apt in this ad. 800/mo, with pool and secure parking. it's called a studio but it's actually 2 pretty large rooms.

I would check that ad out - it looks to me like it could possibly be legit, although from that price maybe tiny. it's Normandy Isle, (so not 'on' Collins, but as they say: 'right by' Collins), and it's north beach; but not as far north as Sunny Isles, which is much fancier. so this area is less pricey than both S.I. and south beach.

also, what i just said is based on that ad being actual photos of the actual building. Since the ad is from an agency, not a private owner, it's possible that those are 'teaser' photos; to 'give a general idea' of the properties they have available.... but still, worth checking out imho.
