I am a not broke, upper middle class worker, and I have IKEA furniture. Why? Because I do not think most furniture sold in other stores are even worth half the price they want for it, especially given the function of some of the furniture.

Walmart does not even come close to IKEA is the furniture business, Walmart is always in talks of doing away with it.

So people who live in SW Dade can have their tomato bisque a little more often.
You know something is going to go there. It's not like it's a choice between a park and a store. Dade county only builds stores, offices, warehouses and more houses/apts. It might as well be something that isn't already here.

My man Boxus! lol, I like you bro.

Yeah I use IKEA too and we are not hurting for money either (my heart goes out to those who are hurting, I know its tough out there right now). But I live in a apartment and will not be buying a home/condo/townhome until I feel the housing market has hit bottom. So, why would I spend money on some expensive furniture that is going to get banged and bruised whenever I move? IKEA, in my opinion is PERFECT for apartment living (which most of the world does). When I buy a ho me, THEN i would invest the money in something I feel is worth it. Until then, I will keep my apartment(s) looking ikea-fabulous (I think im going to trademark that word, I just made it up).

At least it's from Sweden and not Arkansas.

Not everything from Ikea is crap. Some of their product lines are actually made in Europe. I have bought/built some pretty good stuff (and excellent stuff for the $) from Ikea. I have also seen some garbage. Finding the good stuff is half the fun!

We are not broke, but also not wealthy. We have lots of kids and that is the main reason why I like Ikea furniture. I would love to buy beautiful, antique pieces of furniture but my kids will RUIN it within 10 years. It's not practical for us to spend that kind of money on furniture. Plus, after about ten years we can replace it with a different style and not feel as if we dropped tons of $ into a hole. If you pay attention to what you are purchasing, you can find excellent quality at Ikea. Over the years we have purchased a solid hardwood table ($50 on closeout), a solid wood kitchen table with folding leaf, numerous bookcases, picture frames, bedding and kitchen utensils. Most recently we bought a 5X7 rug for $50 (and it looks pretty good!) and a bunk bed for the kids, solid wood, sturdy and $150. Walmart, Kmart, Sears, Macy's, can't touch those prices. No, I don't work for the company, I'm just Norwegian and Danish and love their lignonberry soda and Scandinavian store.

Ha ha-my husband really dislikes this store and calls going to it the "Trail of Tears." But his practicality always overcomes and we end up getting a lot of things there.

Oh yeah, all of the comparable bunk beds we looked at were double-triple-quadruple the price and made of plywood and laminate. No thanks.
