I'm coming down to South Beach in March and was wondering if there is a place (near or on the beach) to store my belongings for a few hours. I will be alone and don't want to leave my stuff unattended.( phone, wallet, and clothes) My hotel is not on or near South Beach. I remember years ago that there was lockers on South Beach but I'm sure they are gone now.

I use to have the same dilemma...what I found works is...a bathing suit/board shorts that have cargo pockets and a water proof bag...I carry my driver's license, credit card, some cash...placing them in the water proof bag and then one of those large cargo pockets...the cell phone is a different problem...but I found a water proof bag that was made for cell phones and find it works quiet well...they even have water proof cases for some cell phone models now...

As far as my clothes...I find some form a small duffle bag...back pack...etc...will hold my towel...sandels...etc...while swimming...that I usually leave on the sand...U may want to stick your vehicle keys in one of the water proof bags and keep that on you as well...

You can find the bags in almost any sporting good store as well as on line...

Just keep stuff hidden and out of sight in your car should be fine, that's what I usually do. Depending on how far I'm going to be from the car, I keep keys, cash, towel, and ID in a knapsack bag within sight on the beach and keep car keys in a zipped pocket, or some swimming shorts have a string to tie keys to. The latter wouldn't work as well if you have a key that electronically unlocks the doors or remote start, ect., but I have a spare that's just a plain key.

I'm surprised that a service like this hasn't been started sooner...

I can't remember where I read it. I'm sure if you google Miami Beach lockers you could find the article.

Those lockers would be great for drop dropoffs. Any idea when in 2013?

Public lockers started disappearing after 9-11 due to safety reasons. The country became paranoid that they'd become places to put explosives. I wonder if that's how it's still seen?
In the meantime, I am just glad I live within walking and biking distance to the beach. I can leave home with practically nothing of value save for some cash and my phone. If you are sly, you can bury your belongings in the sand in a waterproof bag under your towel. I've done that before without issue. But, then again, I haven't really had anything tampered with when I just left stuff stored out of sight. Maybe I'm just lucky?

why not call a hotel in advance, ask to speak with one of the bell hops, see if they could store the bags for you in exchange for a tip.
