TALLAHASSEE -- The Florida Senate on Monday unveiled a proposal that would bring casino resorts to Miami-Dade and Broward counties and expand gambling statewide with one new wrinkle: The gaming industry would be subject to new regulations.

I'm absolutely against this.

First, with regard to:
Quote:
In addition to licensing two destination resort casinos in South Florida, the bill (SPB 7052) would reduce the number of dog races conducted at the state’s 13 greyhound tracks, and requires that track owners and trainers report dog injuries for the first time since the state legalized dog racing 80 years ago.
I'll agree with the injury reports, but why is there a racing limit be proposed? That's not fair at all.

Second, why I'm against a casino proposal like this is because it's creating a MASSIVE monopoly for two companies. Gaming in South Florida will be huge. To give all the money to TWO companies is absolutely wrong. This is corruption and greed at its finest.

Legalize gambling, and let the free market decide how many casinos it can support. Leave it up to local municipalities to decide whether to have casinos in their town or not.

It needs to be legalized statewide and let the market take over. I am not worried because we all know Miami will be the number 1 spot for them. If it is legalized I do say they need to taxed fairly heavily and those taxes need to go to certain projects like mass transit and education. It is such a joke that full casinos are not legal. We already have poker and slots at the race tracks and we have black jack, poker, slots, and even mechanical roulette at the Indian Casinos. South Florida already has Casinos, many of them. Lets let the big time resorts get in on the casinos too. Big money, big development, more tax dollars, more tourist, more jobs.

I agree. I don't know why everyone is so in favor of the legalization of gambling in Florida. They do not realize that the negatives far out weight the positives. Just look at all of the problems that Las Vegas suffers from. Gambling causes an increase in crime, attracts low class people from everywhere, it is addictive and ruins lives, cause divorces and domestic violence, people commit suicide, (it happens more often than people think the media intentionally fails to report on it), and is a dirty business controlled and run by mafias and shady businesses with hidden agendas. All of that for the promise of many low paying jobs and a few well paying jobs that are already taken and will not be given to anyone locally unless they are well connected (politics).

Oh come on... there are casinos all up and down the Gulf Coast and the cities they are in haven't turned into dens of violence and evil, nor have their populations descended into poverty and crime. The mafia doesn't run the casino industry anymore either... man you have been watching too many movies. Seriously.

For real? Do you know how many casinos are already operating across Florida right now?

You do realize there are A TON of casinos in Miami-Dade and Broward right now. A ton! It is just limited in the games the type of games. Why let the gripes make all the money? We already have casinos here everyone. Also I don't see them legalizing Sporta Betting. That is where the crime is, that is where the illegal bookies are, that is where many of the problems are. We already have slots, horses, dogs, jai Alia, poker, blackjack and other video gambling machines. Again we ALREADY have it in Miami. What's the big deal in letting it be legalized and allowing more games in.

http://www.theseminolecasinos.com/locations

Lists only the Seminole locations. 7 locations total, 5 of which offer slots and table games, 2 of which offer only slots.

This doesn't even take into consideration other casinos like Miccosukee, Calder, Gulfstream, Isle, Mardi Gras, Magic City, or the countless poker rooms, Jai Alai fronted casinos, and Grey Hound tracks. Gambling is spread throughout the state... to pretend FL is some kind of land of casino purity is just silly.

Miami should step it up and add casinos in the downtown area / miami beach area.

They also need to add more entertainment venues in order to be able to compete with Vegas.

Miami having it's own casinos and shows/entertainment downtown would make it much better. Think Vegas+NYC

The nightclubs in Miami just aren't enough, Vegas is slowly overshadowing Miami in every category (other than beaches)
