I live in the Upper Eastside of Miami and we have some Foxes which come out at night, I see them every so often 6-8 times a year. Once even saw one eating at a dead rodent which was ran over. It is free pest control I guess.

Today I also saw one in daylight walking in one of the parking lots of University of Miami which gave me the idea to ask. Does anyone else see foxes in their neighborhoods? Or has anyone seen those coyotes which have made their way down here. The Foxes are no bigger than a 20lb dog. I assume their diet is mostly things like mice?

Anyone else notice the free pest control around?

Neither did I until I saw the ones in my neighborhood a few years ago and now see them once in a while at night. I thought maybe its just my area which actually was a zoo of sorts in the 1940s and 1950s. But after I saw one in daylight at UM seems like they are around.

There are definitely Gray Fox (Urocyon cinereoargenteus) in the utopia section of Coconut Grove. I have seen them multiple times around dusk. They will go right up onto people's yards but they are quite stealth and can easily go unnoticed. I guess it's not all that surprising considering the abundance of vegetation and prey around (rats, peacocks, etc...).

Then are as common as opossums. My mother's yard by horse country is full of foxes at times.
