My husband got pulled over on the turnpike doing 75 on 60. This is his first ticket ever. We need to try and keep points off of his record. Should he go to court or just pay the fine or go to the "driving school"? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Do whatever you want. First speeding ticket ever if you go to court the judge would likely just have you pay the fine some cost and no points. You could just go to the driving school too no big deal. Also could go to a place like the ticket clinic. They have an extremely high success rate of getting rid of the tickets off your record completely.

Never ever go for "driving school". Go to court and plead "no contest". You could also take your chances and plead not guilty and hope Mr Donut does not show up. This is the main reason I NEVER go on the turnpike anymore.

Care to elaborate on why one should go to court and plead "no contest".

Likely just pay fine, cost, no points, no record of the ticket especially for such a clean record.

Not sure as it's been a few years but if you plead no contest you would get 50% off the ticket and no points. Maybe someone who's gone to court recently can reply?

Given the poster who made the claim, it most likely has to do with the Fed printing too much money.

Miami Dade traffic court is a lot more reasonable than the Kangaroo court used for alleged code violations. They really just want money for minimum effort. Since Miami drivers are among the worst, it would take far too long to give each a trial and prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. So they will give you a "pre trial" and make an offer to pay a fee with no points. If you are truly guilty you would be foolish to decline their offer. Every time I have been in MD traffic court, I was not guilty and eventually went to trial. So far I have always been declared not guilty or the officer declined to testify. You have nothing to lose except time for going to pre trial conference and see what they offer.

First time I got a speeding ticket in Florida on the west coast I went to court hoping the cop would not show. He did. So I basically said it was the first speeding ticket I had received in my entire life. The judge was not impressed. She said--so you think because you have not had a ticket all these years you shouldn't have to get this ticket? Then she adjudicated it and told me to pay the fine--no points. The next 3 tickets--also on the west coast where there are radar nazis with nothing but time on their hands--I just paid the fine and took online traffic school. It's super cheap, you can go online, take breaks and come back to it, etc. Send in the certificate and get no points. It is definitely the most painless way out. I don't think you can do it more than once a year though.
