Hi all-

I am more than likely relocating for work and will be moving to the Miami area within the next five months. My biggest question is about which neighborhood will fit my needs best:

I'm in my mid-twenties, female and will be looking for a one bedroom that isn't too expensive month to month. My rent limits are about $1300 a month, though I'd like to keep it lower, of course.

I'm from Brooklyn, so I'm used to a more urban layout and lifestyle.

The office is in Miramar and from what family in Miami have told me, that's not a great area to look for a place. I'd like to keep my commute under 45 minutes if possible. I'm so used to a 45 minute subway ride in the morning, I'd be ok with living farther from the office if that meant a better quality of living.

What do you guys think?

And thanks!

I think you have two options:

1) Live closer to work but accept that you'll be out in the suburbs (easily doable on your budget).
2) Live in Coral Gables/Coconut Grove and deal with rush hour on the Palmetto Expwy (i.e. your commute will probably be more than 45 minutes).

Miramar is in Broward County, yes, broadly the Miami area, but your nearest city is Fort Lauderdale.

A 45 minute commute on the subway is not the same as a 45+ minute commute stuck in a car in traffic.

If you really want to live in what passes for urban in southern Florida, I suggest also looking for an apartment in Fort Lauderdale or, perhaps even better, Hollywood: you would be going against traffic both ways. But it has to be a good neighborhood, probably in the core of either "city", in an around Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood Blvd, which can be pricey. Try posting this in the Broward County forum.

If you can tolerate the suburbs, you could try finding a small townhouse somewhere in Pembroke Pines, which is generally safe. But, again, I believe you are in the wrong forum, try the Broward County forum if you haven't done so already.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

Thanks, both!

However, I don't want to live in Broward County (no offense.. to anyone lol). I want to live in the Miami area. I know it might be farther driving, but I have family in Miami and the city seems all around more in my interests.

I'll definitely look at Coconut Grove/Coral Gables, though, thanks!
