I love Comcast. I have 3 TV sets, 3 HD Boxes, Blast High Speed Internet and Phone Service. My bill just climbed to a whopping $214. a month. I also have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I use the internet every day and Netflix but never use the phone or watch all of the millions of shows and movie content out there with the exception of Fox News or Local 10.

I am ready to cut the cord and want to know what others are doing to combat these over priced cable bills. I forgot to mention a I also have Chromecast I use to watch Netflix on my TV.

Does anyone use an HD antenna in the Brickell Area. I bought one once and all I received stations in Spanish and have no use for those. I am cutting the Comcast Cord this week keeping only the internet.

I have an antenna and I get 3 PBS channels, 4, 6, 7 and 10 and a few of their affiliates, 33, 39, a bunch of religious channels, Spanish channels, a western channel, a classics channel and a few more. I'm in West Kendall though, not Brickell. I also, only have internet with Comcast. I don't miss the tv part at all. We watch Netflix and Amazon Prime mostly and I get movies from the library.

I bought my own equipment. So I have no rental fees. And dump the Comcast phone. I have 6 TV's with HD, preferred package, plus Blast internet and HBO. My bill, with taxes and everything, is $134.26. You should call and renegotiate for double play offers. You can get starter with 140+ channels and blast internet for $89.99.

Another option is to just buy internet, as you know. I think they have offers around $40/mo for Blast. Then you can use an HD antenna and get some decent channels, notably your local channels. The issue is when you realize you want a little more, so you spend $10 on Netflix, then $10 on Hulu Plus, then here and there..... You end up spending $90+ anyways and missing out on countless channels and a poor experience using all the apps. If you don't watch much TV or care about it, then cut the cored and get Netflix and an HD antenna. Me? I'd be miserable.

Depending on how your antenna is positioned, you can get up to 53 channels for free near Brickell.

The only caveat is if there's another building between your balcony or window and the transmitters. I have this issue in South Beach, so I don't get most of the local channels. But Cable internet with Sling + Chromecast + Netflix has been sufficient for me. Decent sports coverage on Sling too. Vonage for the home phone, which is actually rarely used, but occasional international calls still make it worth keeping. Total combined damage is still around $100, but once my intro rates ended, things had gotten well over $200.

And that's the thing. You are paying over $100/mo and getting a fraction of what you get with Comcast internet + TV. Sling is terrible, I have it at my office. The app is terrible, no decent DVR function, limited channels, and 1 TV at a time. I think it's worth the extra $30 to get 200+ channels, onDemand, DVR, multiple TV's, etc. etc. But to each their own. Can't get Miami Heat games on Sling and it's just so much of a hassle to save $30/mo.

These companies know what they are doing. Cord cutting and piecing together different services is miserable if you actually enjoy TV, so you get stuck paying for it. Though $135/mo, to me, is pretty reasonable for what I'm getting.

I hear you, and I definitely agree the Sling app is...lacking. I'm kind of on a Miami Heat boycott because of what they did with Parcel B, though. My Atlantic Broadband bill was $160 just cable + internet, can't get Comcast, wouldn't save much keeping just basic cable, and I was on Netflix or CNN most of the time anyway. Come football season, may have to re-evaluate.

I had cut the cord for a while, quite happily watching broadcast and netflix. Sadly, I was forced to resubscribe to Xfinity, because of a lack of other cable options.

The antennas are so cheap there's really no reason NOT to try. You can always go back to cable if you prefer.

I never found anything good on the antenna. Yeah, you can get 60+ channels with an antenna, but they are all lame.

I cut Comcast awhile ago and haven't looked back!

I would suggest getting Hulu because many of their shows update new episodes the following day, so it's much more up to date compared to Netflix or Amazon. If you like series, you can also get HBO Now.
