I’ve found most people in South Beach / Miami Beach are bilingual but tend to be more comfortable speaking Spanish. If you want to feel more “at home” go North of Fort Lauderdale.

Enough Spanish to get around, but both cultures you mentioned Colombian and Chile speak English in the states. They aren't like Cubans or Central Americans who refuse to do it in Miami. Funny thing is I moved to Melbourne last week and heard a strong English accent, but clear. The lady was Cuban. They don't play that up here. English is the first language.

To be clear, nobody means don't ever speak your native tongue. But Spanish should not be the #1 language in any city in America.

It's a FAD, and eventually all goes away, the years go by and the new generations want NOTHING to do with the Old Roots..

NY City with the Italians, The Irish, The Germans, The Jews, The Puerto Ricans, lately The Russians they have gone thru HELL for years in top of more years with the language problems of SO MANY Immigrants not getting into the daily flow of a new language here...They're still around today..

Miami will not be any different in the future.

These are probably RAFTER'S related....Much later invasion...2-3 generations of the original Cubans (The 60's) are americans ALL the way in this day and age and all over the country, most no longer have a thing to do with Miami..

People have been saying this ^^^ for 30 years. I don't think it is a fad. New people keep settling in the Miami area.
