Hey,

I was wondering if there are (or will be) any 1000 foot buildings in Miami.
I've heard that the skyline is pretty massive. I plan on visiting there very soon.

Thanks,

Wikipedia says the tallest building in Miami is the Four Seasons Hotel Miami (70 stories/789 feet) in Brickell.

They cannot build high skyscrapers or a rail system there because it is positioned just above a big aquifer of drinking water..

Not true. Currently, One Biscayne Plaza at 1,049 is Miami's first approved 1,000 footer. It's not under construction yet, but it most likely will be built. They have it planned to be finished by 2013. Other 1,000 footers that are proposed are two twin 1,020 towers called Empire World Towers.

There's Brickell Financial Centre at 903ft that's also going to get built. But besides that, Miami's skyline is still very massive with a ton of buildings and a ton more under construction, it's amazing.

Good luck getting a permit from the FAA. Those buildings (World Empire etc.) are proposed on Biscayne Blvd. right in front of Bayside. They are currently deemed an 'aviation hazard' to flights coming and leaving MIA. That is why many other buildings have been capped at or below the height of the Four Seasons (none of the condos that went up in the last couple years are taller than the Four Seasons).

I would love to have world class 1,000 foot towers in Miami, but I know that Miami's infrastructure is way behind. The prospect of this becoming a reality is highly unrealistic; even for those with high spirits about the current situation in Miami. Maybe after they build more garages, highways, roads, and especially working public transportation such as rail or trolley cars, or even more metro mover, will they build 1,000 foot skyscrapers.

If you think traffic in Miami is bad, just wait until HALF of these new condos are completely occupied, traffic downtown will be so much worse...

Infrastructure in Miami is NOT BEHIND, if anything the Downtown infrastructure is some of the best in the country. In Downtown alone you have Metromover, with 22 stations with 3 lines and a station at about every 2 blocks. So, you don't even have to walk, you can take the train, and it's FREE! Plus, you've got 3 Metrorail stations that connect to Tri-Rail and throughout Miami, and the two streetcar lines that are set to built to Midtown and South Beach. Many people in Downtown don't even have cars, like people in Miami Beach.

Also, you might want to look at this to prove that 1,000 footers are possible in Miami and will get built. Anyone that says otherwise is foolish. Miami will get a 1,000 footer and in the next few years. One Bayfront Plaza will get built as the developer is really determined on getting it built at 1,049ft, all Class-A office space, and it has been APPROVED as of January 2008. Much of Downtown has a height restriction from the FAA of 1,010ft, and One Bayfront Plaza was given an exception to go higher to 1,049ft. Don't believe me, see the FAA height limits map below. Thanks.

Talk to anyone who actually uses the trains in Miami as opposed to studying them and you will discover that they don't go very far, and the stations pass by areas that least need them (Ahem the Grove and the Gables). Also, why doesn't Miami's train system extend west? Ned Murphy, the director of FIU's Metropolitan center, called the Metro Mover "a joke." I know from experience that the trains do run, but they don't go to the places that need them most, just a little downtown loop that is used by the local homeless for rides and free air conditioning.

It would be very irresponsible for the city to allow the construction of more gargantuan skyscrapers downtown until they get the tunnel built underneath 395 to port of Miami. That will alleviate all the semi traffic that chokes downtown streets. The city should at least get developers to fork over IMPACT FEES so we can help accomodate the tens of thousands of vehicles these towers would doubtlessly bring with them. Even if the city approved the construction of the 1,000 ft. tower, the FAA is what counts. Do you know if they were approved or got a permit from thet FAA as of yet? Thanks

Have you contacted the city of Miami to see what their long term plans are for their trains there? I was doing research a year ago and apparently as far back as the 70s the city planned to build a world class mass transit system to rival NYC. But the populace shot down a penny tax which would have enabled them to do so
