I just came across this old thread.
Back in the 70s, early 80s it was owned by a magician named Sam ( The Amazing Sammy ) He was a lifetime member of SAM ( Society of American Magicians ) He was also a member of IBM (International Brotherhood of Magicians ) as was I. I know he had the shop well over 30 years. You could try to find out more about Sam through SAM or IBM You might Google “The Amazing Sammy Miami”

You're right about the rest of your recollection though. Not sure about the motorcycle place now, but the barber shop is still there, it's quite a "factory" with like 5 or 6 barbers and a ton of people there all at one time.

I recall that area 35 years ago, it was all manigua...there were strip malls but farther down. I used to go to several shops of "comida para llevar por libras" around 40 Ave. Back then it was Cuban lebensraum, the new frontier, but there were also Americans, a friend built an apartment building around that same area and had problems with zoning laws..and it seem there were are pockets of conflictive areas.

La Casa de los Trucos was and I think still is on 8thSt and 12th Ave.
