Congratulations Jnglvan,
You are going to love it here
I did the same thing a year ago and researched schools etc.
Read all about it in my previous posts, lots of info on schools

As for the bad things, if you can survive this forum you should be ok in the real Miami.
We live in the kendall/dadeland area and love it.

The Palmetto Bay and Pinecrest suburbs of Miami are very nice with really great schools, most notably Miami Palmetto HS. Coral Gables, South Miami and even Dadeland and Coconut Grove are all very nice. Note: Dadeland and Coconut Grove are much more urban than Coral Gables and South Miami. Palmetto Bay and Pinecrest are the most suburban of my suggestions. Also to note, Palmetto Bay and Pinecrest has the best public school zoning from this list of suggestions as far as I know. Avoid South Miami HS and even Coral Gables HS.

Other good schools would be Miami Coral Reef HS, and various magnet high schools that specialize on specific careers (for example, DASH specializes in Architecture and has been ranked the #1 magnet school in the U.S. for 3 years, MAST specializes in marine studies and highly ranked, New School of the Arts, specializes in art, theater, broadcasting and cinema and is also highly ranked [top 20 I believe]).

The good thing about living in Pinecrest or Palmetto Bay is that you can attend Miami Palmetto HS without having to enter any type of lottery. Miami Coral Reef HS is an all-magnet high school that doesn't specialize in any one specific career so it's good for everyone and is well-ranked.
