I'm thinking of going to South Florida next summer for a few months working in Hialeah. From people I know, I've heard mixed reviews if not terrible reviews of Hialeah. Is it safe? If so what parts of Hialeah should I stay in? What other areas are safe? Rent no more than $1,800 for a studio, 1-bedroom where the commute to Hialeah wouldn't be too terrible.
Thanks!

hialeah is a blue collar predominantly hispanic community. I'm not quite sure of the rental market but $1800 a month would most likely buy you lots of space in hialeah.

with regard to the safety issue I consider hialeah to be very safe.

Yeah I've been around Hialeah and it's safe (mostly F.O.B Cubans) but it's very ugly/dirty looking. Also alot of the people I met there have the "hablo solo espanol" type of attitude n seemed kinda snooty and wary of outsiders. Everybody's different though and it's not my place to generilize a whole neighborhood. Just my 2 cents, I'm sure somebody could shed some more light though.

Why would you move to Hialeah with a 1800/month budget.. and why would you move into a studio with that kind of budget?

Part of the reason is because chances are they really do only speak Spanish.

Well my work would be in Hialeah, but since I can afford other places and I haven't heard great things about Hialeah I want to know where I could live. I want a place that's not "very ugly/dirty looking" but I don't want a horrible commute into Hialeah either. What would be a good doable option? I'm in my 20s and would like to be in a place that's safe, but with restaurants, bars, etc.

I was about to say that too. I used to live in Hialeah the majority of my life. The time I was there I was always envious of my friends in Miami Lakes. Simply innocence speaking, but I thought Miami Lakes was a much nicer place when I was a kid. And it is. There are some expensive areas, but I figure you could find a nice, cheaper place.

Western Hialeah is OK too, but it doesn't win any points in looks, at all. My house was robbed once, but honestly I can't say that as a young kid I ever had a problem there. The people there are OK, but you will find some snobby ones every now and then. And yes, Spanish is the official language.

where in hialeah will you be working? there are some TV production facilities on W 8 ave and W 23 st. I think ch 51.

then there are others in the west end on W 18 ave and W 74 st.

there are possibly others within hialeah and others still in medley.

if you are going to be in the ch51 facilities then miami springs is an excellent choice, otherwise miami lakes is good also.

with regard to an interesting nightlife cafés, restaurants et al then miami lakes is the clear choice. in any event you are about fifteen minutes drive from miami lakes to central hialeah.
