Sorry to burst your bublue Cuba Libre, but only people from oppress countries would like to live in the USA. Ask any European, Australian, Japanese (you get the picture) and they rather live in their own countries.

To the OP - Ooh baby you would hate to be a rican in NY - we go over board with the flags here. I don't personally, but I have plenty of cousins who have it on the HOOD of their car - LOL.

Not necessarily. I personally know one German, three Frenchman, one Italian, two Spaniards and a bunch of Poles who live in Miami and love it here. They have no intention of ever returning to Europe.

I personally would trade my place in Miami for almost any city in France (except Marseilles) or Italy.

Well yes, the same reason why you would ask any American living in Canada and they would tell you that they love it up there. I personally don't see anything wrong with citizens of other countries displaying their love for their former homes. I do have a problem when those people living in the USA, don't respect our American flag. If you want to burn the US flag, wrap yourself with it first.

Bravo CLTKing - you know your brother messed you all up the other day, but it explains the difference in tone. I agree that if you live here you should respect it. I would never dare go to another country and burn their flag, why, when if it is so horrible where you are you can simply go back to your native country. I love America! However, I have heard some amazing things about the countries spoken about, france, switzerland, netherlands, austria and on and on - free education (the same one we pay for) and they actually pay you to stay home with the kiddies. Can you imagine?

Yes, .0001% of people in France would rather live in the U.S. (Yes, I exaggerate.) A lot of people still have the 100-year-old idea that everyone in the world is yearning to live here. It's just not true, at least for people from industrialized countries. Whatever residual feeling there might have been, Bush drove a stake through it.

I can't imagine anyone coming here to live giving up their original passport, even if they become American citizens. There's the not-so-small issue of our sadly inferior health care system.

Yes, I apologize for his behavior. You know I am glad that you bring up the subject of free education and other freebies that folks received from the government in some European countries. Some people on this side of the Pond believe that Europeans pay more taxes than we do, and that if they go to a hospital for FREE health care, they need to wait hours to be seen by a mediocre Dr. Well, I have news for those folks, here in the USA we pay as much taxes as Swedish, Spaniards or French (20% of my income goes to the government, so today Friday, the 5th day of the week, I am making money for Uncle Sam). It gets better, their healthcare is far better than ours, it is a fact that Europeans and Japanese have a longer lifespan than Americans. The US would be far better off if we citizens could keep a bigger share of our incomes, pay less taxes, or at least, get some benefits back. I know, this is not the right forum for this discussion, and now I am open game for all haters. I am not a “commie” as some would say, but I am a liberal and I think Socialism is the answer to the many problems we have in the USA. And to those that think Socialism has no place in our country, think again, all the bank bail outs and the government taking partial ownership of them…..that sounds to me like what Castro did in the 60’s with US companies, and he was a full blooded “commie”.

I dislike seeing those litle forign flags on people's cars. I also don't care how many people they have in their families (those stupid little stickers you often see on the backs of minvans and SUVs). By the way, has anyone ever seen an American flag hanging from someone's rear view mirror? I have not. Maybe they're all on cars driven by Americans down in Mexico.
