I'm flying in on Wednesday to go apartment hunting. I'm going to see a place on NW 167th Street & 19th Avenue. I'm told its in North Miami beach. What kind of neighborhood is this. I'm coming from a pretty posh place and would like at least a decent neighborhood that is walkable.

Google Maps locates that area as Opa-Locka, and that is not a nice area at all. Definitely not posh. If you want posh, walkable and nice, I'd look into Midtown, Downtown, Coconut Grove, South Beach, North Beach, Brickell, Miracle Mile, etc. It depends also where you're going to work. Try finding a place close to where you work to avoid long commutes.

Ya- not "posh"- barely "liveable". Brickell, Aventura, Coral Gables, Pinecrest. Opa Locka- look up the crime figures on that place- or better yet- theres about 300 threads on here with warning about opa locka particularly. Not a nice place to live- at all. Especially if youre looking for posh.

Ya a little better- youre closer to Sunny Isles there- its not a bad neighborhood- theres a mall and alot of shops. Its close to Sunny Isles Beach- not a terrible area to live.

Yeah, that's much better lol. That's North Miami Beach, which is an okay area, not bad though. The best part of this area is its proximity to the beach, minutes from Aventura Mall, FIU- Biscayne Bay Campus, and there's the Oleta River State Park, which is a huge nature preserve. So, if you're into outdoors events, you're in a good spot. I can't speak much about safety and other details on the area, because I'm not very familiar with it. I know the areas adjacent to Biscayne Blvd are all really nice.

If you want posh, you need to stay east of US1 in that area. I believe there are some safe areas west of US1, but NONE of them are anything close to posh with the exception of the area north of Miami Gardens Drive and east of I-95. It sounds like Aventura or Sunny Isles Beach is more what you want.

If you can afford it, Aventura is the place to look.
