I suggest to those who can not abide living near non-whites that you find some remote part of the country and move there ASAP. Miami or any other major city is the LAST place you need to be.
Many of the negative comments are not necessarily racist; they are made regarding people who do not assimilate, do not speak English, etc. Some of these complaints apply to rich, white Venezuelans living in gated communities in Doral as much as they do to poor, "brown" Central Americans living in Allapatah. Even the couple of people on this website who have personal vendettas against "Hispanics" are not necessarily racist; "Hispanic" is not a race. You might already know this, but be prepared to meet a lot of white people in Miami whose first language is Spanish.

With that said, most Miami "Hispanics," regardless of their race, do speak English, including nearly everyone who is of working age and not a recent immigrant. Many of the complaints you will find on here are very exaggerated. The reality: lots of people, including many old people and recent immigrants, speak little English in Miami, and you will notice this. However, since the majority of the population are neither senior citizens nor recent immigrants, most people do speak English.

Married, 3 children, need safe area with safe schools. Apartment is ok. No luxury required.
Yes the Pinecrest recommendations are way overrated because they still have a large population of white nonhispanics, but the place is nothing special and the area is overpriced. That place used to be affordable many years ago, not everybody paid $700k to live there. And if we gonna judge the quality of its students the Serial Cat Killer attended Palmetto High, and the school is infested with drugs just like any other school in the USA.

Your major problem though is the school selection. Try this link to lookup schools by address. You might even find affordable apartments in Coral Gables, Dadeland and "Pinecrest"

Dadeschools.net (http://www.dadeschools.net/schools/locator.htm - broken link)

Moderator cut: Off topic Yes we have a share of those people living here, but most people will only say those kind of things behind closed doors. Moderator cut: flaming

People make recommendations based on where you will most likely fit in the best, it isn't that so many people here are racist. Therefore, try Miami Lakes for a nice, diverse community near Hialeah. Also consider Virginia Gardens or Miami Springs...Hialeah itself not so much. There are no TRUELY affordable and decent places in Miami, but the run of the mill people tend to live in what you would now consider expensive suburbs because they bought before the boom-bust cycle.

If your job is in Hialeah, try Hialeah Gardens... they have alot of cheap town homes and apartments right on Okeechobee...and its a bit more safe then Hialeah itself... no offence to anyone.

There is nothing unique to Miami about racism.
Just don't come here with a completely inexperienced negative attitude.
If they'll let you, stay where you are.
