Hey!! Don't bash the constant road construction, those are "Michigan Jobs"!

My husband just went back to work after being laid off for 6 months. Blue collar workers aren't doing so well around here. Not all jobs have been effected by the economy. But it just seems like they have eliminated the middle man. There are either the really high paying jobs or the barely enough money to survive jobs. The rich get richer and the poor just gets poorer. But this is just my view. My family mostly works in plants for the big 3, so of course we were effected by it. SE, Michigan seems to be in the worst shape. But other areas of michigan don't seem to be hit as hard.

I agree that if you have a job offer, then the Dexter area is the place to be. It is growing but is still a quaint place with a small avenue area and shopping. The house prices are lower than in Ann Arbor and real estate taxes are lower. The schools are all good and the town has several annual weekend events, a great Cider Mill (open late Aug. thru mid Nov) and some nice farm markets. Ann Arbor is a quick drive away for anything you might need or want to do there, and it has the Briarwood Mall for shopping. Dexter has lakes nearby, a great county park (Hudson Mills), and a golf course.

If you're coming to Michigan, look at Saline. We were only one of three cities in the whole state to make Money Magazine/CNN's top best cities to live in the U.S. list. Granted Saline's place was partly due to its location to A2, but it is a nice town of less than 10 thousand people. Great schools and housing prices are starting to become more reasonable. Lets face it some people were asking far too much for homes that featured barely anything and were only slightly above 1100 square feet. But as they say the market dictates the price.
