We have recently moved to Holland, MI and are going to look for a house. Which part of Holland is best? North Side or South Side and why?

While we have a Holland address, we don't live in the city of Holland.
We chose the north side (Park Township) because of the close proximity and access to Lake Michigan.
There are great real estate deals to be had here, good schools (West Ottawa), and a short 5 minute drive into town.
Tunnel Park is less than a 10 minute walk from our house and we're close enough to hear the waves on the lake.

We lived on the north side for a short while. We enjoyed it very much . Yes, the north side is west ottawa Public schools and I think they are doing better than Holland public schools on the south side. Both are very pretty. I think the south side has more charming older homes. My sister in-law and her family live on the south side and they are walking distance from the lake. I don't think you can go wrong on any side!

Immediate, close access to downtown Holland's shops, galleries, pubs and restaurants, the farmer's market, Hope College sports/theatre/arts activities, civic theatre, the civic center, sports stadium, parks, neighborhood shopping and restaurant opportunities and dozens of schools, churches and playgrounds is what makes the southside (inside the city) of Holland the best in my opinion. Very walkable. Sidewalks everywhere. Very old-fashioned neighborhood in design and layout, with a classic street grid system.

The northside is much more rural or subdivision-oriented.

It's all what you are looking for.

Welli live on northside i dont think you can go wrong on either side West Ottawa and Hollanfd are both districts West Ottawa is bigger most because there are two townhips theres park and Holland Charter which is slightly north and east of park twp Holland Charter is slighty more rural and the east side shares a border with Zeeland public schools( another good option for schooling) both are still in( except for maybe the border on the east side) both are still West Ottawa schools though and HCT is also slightly bigger in pop neither has a " downtown" we have a strip mall but a lot of stores moved out because of almost no business. But we are still close too Holland and beaches arent more than 15 minutes away the southside is also very nice. The City Of Holland was voted second happiest, healthiest City in the nation. The southside has lots of churches as well which in opinion make it more pretty downtown is very nice as well. My family enjoys visiting. Overall both are good places too live.
