Our dd, 17, is really into smooth jazz type music. I would love to take her somewhere where they play live jazz, but she is obviously way too young to go to any kind of nightclub, and we aren't the nightclubbing kind anyway. Does anyone know of any restaurants or other venues that play good jazz music in SE Michigan? Anywhere in the Ann Arbor or Detroit metros would be great.

Thanks!

There is a great venue in the Eastern MArket that plays Fridays and Saturdays I believe.

When I was a student at Eastern Michigan, and a Jazz lover, I found the best place to be was at the University Of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Great Jazz coming from the students. You might want to check with them to see if they have a summer concert series.

Okay, I'll check that out too. We only live 20 min. from AA, and our dd loves that city, so that would be great. Thanks!

There are quite a few places in Detroit that you guys could go to... the names of the venues are escaping me at the moment... I'll have to think about it. BUT, you should definitely check out the Detroit Jazz Festival on Labor Day weekend in Hart Plaza downtown. It's a pretty big event and I'm sure you would enjoy it: Detroit Jazz Festival

It's Bert's in Eastern Market, a restaurant and nightclub. Been there forever. Jazz probably only at night...

I recall that one of the oldest jazz clubs in the country is actually near 8 mile and Livernois.

I think it is Bakers Keyboard lounge. But I could be wrong.

You're correct. I believe it had/has a piano-shaped bar (I haven't seen it).

Long long time ago (when I lived in Detroit) I would frequent this jazz club. I do remember not only was the jazz great, but so was the food.
