We are planning on moving to the Kalamazoo/Portage area and have been looking at houses for 2 months now. After reading some of the forums, the consensus appears to be to STAY AWAY from the Northside, Eastside, parts of the Edison neighborhood of Kalamazoo, and to an extent--Parchment.

I was only able to find ONE post on Burke Acres and it didn't seem negative. As I am unfamiliar with all of these areas, I would appreciate any insight.

The borders of Burke Acres are roughly:
North--"G" Ave, same as the Kalamazoo Twp line
East--Nazareth Rd
South--Gull Rd
West--Riverview

Also--what is on the corner of Birch/Onondaga? From satellite views, it appears to be an old school or factory. But, BING and Google have no details on their maps. Thank you!

Parchment is a nice town. My son lives one block east of Riverview near Harding's Market in a nice little house he bought for a very reasonable price. The neighbors are nice and the streets very walkable.

I'm pretty sure the building you are talking about is an old school and not sure what it's used for now. As far as the area you are talking about, there are a lot of nice older houses along with some not so nice ones that have been let go over the years. It just varies street by street and house by house. I would generally say the area south of Mosel Ave. to Mt. Olivet Rd. just east of Riverview is a little more rundown with a lot of these houses being slab construction without basements.
