So the economy in Michigan is just popping. Glad to hear it. I guess all the roomers were wrong. So GM is really doing well. Glad it was all just a big misunderstanding. Don’t you just hate it when the News channels get it so wrong. I hope my 401k really has more money in it than what my statement shows.

I think a lot of it has to do with listening to all the bad news. If you got up and turned on the tv or radio and all you hear is bad news, does it make you feel nervous about the economy and country? Many people who have good jobs are still spending money. I got a few friends of mine into renting some cement statue molds from me and they now sell statues at shows on the weekends. Last week they made almost $2000 in three days. Not saying it will continue, but just saying people with money are still spending.

I wish GM and Ford would get their acts together. Henry Ford was a visionary. He knew that if you couldn't afford the product you were making, you couldn't make money. The Ford was the "people's car". He paid his workers decent wages. Unions worked at Ford too. Don't get me wrong. Unions can do crooked things too. With that said, the corporations can do crooked things too. Unions serve their purpose in some cases. They have been helpful to make sure the workers get treated fairly and have even helped the people who deserve more get more. I'm not denying the unions have done some crooked things. Now the corporations have a "bean counter" mentality. Well, they have always been like that, Ford was a cut above at first. Now things have gotten bad. One things that would get Michigan's economy back together is to get Ford and GM running smoothly again. That and diversify the economy even more.

Exactly! Greedy owners and ceo's are the worst problem. They have no clue as to how to run a business, just how much money they make. This is the worst problem to me. until we can tone down the greed, (which means making the company and its employees come first, not thinking about pocketing 20 million instead of 10), the problems will never end. These people need to learn how to live on a few million instead of tens of millions.

Things have good purposes. Sometimes it is the people who make or break the deal.

Unions worked at Ford? Every hear of Harry Benett? Look him up on Google.

Henry Ford was a smart man and very clever, but he was not a nice man. Do you know where Hitler got the funding to take over and grow the Nazi party?

Going back on the topic. I have spent all my money. That must have helped Michigan's economy somehow.

I do nto see any possibility of GM surviving wihtout bankruptcy. Bankruptcy might be very good for them on a long term basis. Even with a bailout, GM as we know it will not survive. Something will come out of GM, and it may even be called GM, but it will nt obe the mega conglomerate that we know today. Ford might stumble through Ford has more cash avialable but they have hocked everything even the logo. If Ford falls, they will probably not survive in any form.

I see no hope for Chrysler.

It is not all gloom and doom though. Michigan is slowly replacing the automotive manufacturing with high tech, medical and other industries. It will nto happen over noght, and Michigan may never again be the center of US industrial might, but we will get by. Sooner or later, people are going to start wondering whewre they are going to get water.

Bankruptcy would allow the automakers to vacate their pension and long-term healthcare obligations. That is probably the only way to ensure their long-term survival.
