This may seem like a dumb question, but I've heard so much about how bad the economy is in the UP I thought I'd ask anyway. I was just wondering how hard it would be to find a part-time job, just a couple days a week really, in either the Marquette or Houghton-Hancock areas, and I'm pretty open to anything. Are the locals resistant to hiring someone new to the area? I'm a college grad with 20 years professional background in my field but also have other experience in a variety of other fields, and I have a professional clean-cut appearance etc. etc. Thanks for any input.

The Marquette Area is not that bad off. There are some areas of the U.P. that are doing poorly, much like many areas throughout the State. Locals would not have any problem with someone new, wouldn't even notice as Marquette gets a fair amount of "non-natives." It sees a greater influx than any other U.P. city/town.

When I look in our town newspaper (Iron Mountain), the majority of jobs I see are in Marquette- and they seem to add quite a bit, week to week.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like Marquette is the place to be.
