I don't shop at conventional grocery stores too often. I like to shop at Trader Joe's, Costco and good health food stores. I'm not a big fan of Whole Foods. I prefer independent health food stores or small chains. Does Kalamazoo have all these stores?

No Trader Joe's yet. I did hear somewhere that Costco may be coming. There is the Kalamazoo Food co-op on Harrison St. on the eastern edge of downtown.

They have health food stores, I can think of one off the top of my head, Sawall's Health Foods, I know there is at least one more. It's a pretty good store.

Natural Health Food Center is at the corner of West Main & Drake. Earth Fare (a Trader Joe's type store) is also opening soon. It is in front of the Lowes on South Westnedge near the corner of Westnedge and Kilgore.

Though this will only help 6 months of the year. There are several farmers markets in the metro area, but the main market on Bank St. in Kalamazoo is the best. It came in at #24 out of the top 101 farmers markets in the US.

They do have an indoor winter market, but for obvious reasons, it is lacking. Also note, KVCC is building an urban farm next to the Bank St. Market, so that should add to it in the near future.
As for Grocery store chains. There is a Earth Fare that is currently under construction at the corner of Westnedge and Kilgore. There are also plans of building a Sprouts Farmers Market in the city, but I do not know where.
