What do you guys think of the public schools in Dearborn (specifically Edsel Ford High School, Dearborn High School, and Fordson High School)?

Also, what do you think of the employment situation? Do you think it would be easy for an 18 year old or a 17 year old to get a job in Dearborn?

Default Dearborn High Schools and Employment

Up through around the early 1980's Dearborn's City high schools used to be rated top in the state and nation and used to spend more per year on students than any other schools in Michigan, including richer cities. In order of academic ranking back then: 1) Edsel Ford; 2) Dearborn and 3) Fordson. Sadly today based upon MEAP scores, not nationwide but ONLY in the state of Michigan, rank is: Dearborn ranked 151st, Edsel Ford ranked 250th and Fordson ranked 350th. So until the new superintendent and board turn this school district around, if you have any school age children, I'd suggest sending them to private schools. The main issue with Dearborn schools since that time has been large numbers of immigrantstudents that are not fluent in English or use English as a 2nd language.

As far as the job market, it's a tough job market because Dearborn is the hometown of Henry Ford and the headquarters for Ford Motor Company, which is facing the pitfalls, losses and early retirements that all American auto companies are facing. Therefore, it is not a good job market for anyone unless they're looking for a fast food or retail job.
