I'd say Mayor Duggan has a chance, especially if he keeps his good track record up his entire time in office.

Not L Brooks Patterson.

He will be 79 years old in 2018, possibly never fully recovered from his auto accident, and not conservative enough for the Republicans outside of SE Michigan.

My impression was that Mike Duggan was going to put all of his efforts into fixing Detroit, not running for state office. In order to make a dent in Detroit he won't be able to bail out in just four years. I would be sorely disappointed to find out that he was just using his position as mayor of Detroit for one term and as a stepping stone to becoming Governor, although he wouldn't be the first politician to do such a thing if he did.

Oh HELL NO, L. Brooks Patterson! He's been around since Fred Flintstone, and is about as smart. Never!

Gretchen Whitmer is a former Democratic member of the Michigan Senate and Senate Democratic Leader. She represented the 23rd District following a special election in March 2006 to replace Virg Bernero.

She was on the short list this last election, probably the Democratic favorite, but decided not to run this time.
