While I'm sitting here crying in my coffee because it appears NO one has anything to say about Cheboygan- I'm thinking of incorporating a ski/water park stay in our house hunting trip.

What would you recommend if we wanted to water park for 1 nte and ski for 2? It's been many years since we've skied; our children - never. Yes, we're bad parents. It appears Boyne (the resort itself) has about 4 different types of accommodations. Any input ? We'd like to do this more afffordably - if possible.

ColdJensens- I don't think Cheboygan was eated by a monster Because it wasn't on the news.

Many thanks

No but they made a game - "The Monster that Ate Cheboygan."
That is the only reason that I am aware that there is a place called Cheboygan.

If you move there, you will have to find that game on E-bay. I doubt that it is still sold in stores.

We went to a waterpark hotel near Traverse City. The waterpark at Boyne was booked and it was considerably more expensive. The Traverse City waterpark was ok but do not expect it to occupy all or even most of your time. We were going to ski at Boyne while there, but it was too crowded. We went to a place called Schuss mountain. It was very undeveloped. Just two trailers and the lifts. The Skiing was fine for the kids. Kind of dull for me, but not crowded at all. I do think that they have any runs that are even one mile long, probably not even half a mile. None of the runs there were challenging and I am an intermediate skier at best. (I can manage most black diamond runs at Beaver Creek, but not gracefully).

Boyne is supposed to be better, but it was super crowded.
Do not go during a three day weekend (i.e. MLK day).

That is the one we we went to. Great Wolf lodge. Great especially for the younger kids. Funny thing is that they do not have a swimming pool. The nearby areas have some fun things to do and you are close to Schuss mountain and not too far from Boyne.

In March it probably won't be that busy. I haven't been to the new Boyne resort and water park, but I hear it's spectacular and much nicer than Great Wolf Lodge in TC.

There was a big article about Boyne's huge addition in the Grand Rapids Press a few weeks ago:

The other mountain that ColdJensens is talking about is Shuss Mountain at Shanty Creek Resort. No indoor water park there though, but it's a beautiful resort and there are a few things to do in Bellaire nearby like a first-run (but small) movie theater and an indoor putt-putt golf course. There are also several lodges and many condominiums to choose from.

Don't feel bad. We haven't taken any of our three kids skiing yet, and we have a ski hill only a few miles from us. Too darn expensive.

You will probably want to avoid going to Boyne Mountain around St. Patricks Day . The resort is very crowed then. Also, there is a lot of partying and you may not find it suitable for the kids.
