I'll be visiting Escanaba, MI for a few days. I live in Virginia.
I'll fly there ... but on the way back, I'd like to see Toronto. I've never been and it's so close.

So ... what are some ways for me to get from Escanaba, MI to Detroit?

I'm pretty sure the Delta commuter flight goes there... but I'm not a fan of Delta.
Any other ideas?

And I'd like to rent a car and drive up to Toronto... but hey... maybe ... (just thought about it) .. there's a flight direct to Toronto...

Ideas?

You don't have to go through Detroit to get to Canada, unless you want to visit Detroit. Otherwise, you can go through Sault St. Marie and drive through mostly Canada all the way, or take I-75 to I-69 and cross at Port Huron. The former is more remote while the latter has more populated areas. Both are about a 10 hour drive.

I'm thinking a one-way rental from Escanaba Michigan to Toronto is not a cheap proposition.

it's also between 600 and 800 miles depending on one's route ... so between 9.5 and a 12 hour drive.

you could take a bus (and others on here may know about Megabus, etc. ... or just ask Google, as it will tell you pretty much everything) but a bus sounds like the trip from hell to me. Obviously flying you would miss all of the sights, but it would be the quickest and easiest way to get there. Also you need a passport or an enhanced driver's license to get back into the United States from Canada.

FYI, Greyhound bus service leaves Escanaba around 4 am. And it will take around 15-20 hours to get to Detroit that way. There are no direct flights to Toronto. You will not have endless choice of airlines--Delta or American (if you fly out of Marquette). You will either fly from the UP to Detroit or Chicago--from Escanaba, it's only to Detroit. Unless you want to charter a private flight. There is no train service from the UP. I don't know if the OP has ever been to Escanaba, but it is a very small place.

But we like it that way. Keeps the riff-raff out.

Indian trails/Greyhound From Escanaba to Chicago. I think there are daily services @4:55am. Should reach Chicago by 1:30PM

Megabus/Amtrak/Greyhound from Chicago to Detroit ( Lots of services - daily). Takes approximately 6 hours.

See Chicago as a bonus.
