Revival of downtown Kalamazoo's east end nears a tipping point | MLive.com

Michigan has seen the downtowns of Ann Arbor, Detroit, and Grand Rapids boom. It appears that Kalamazoo is next on the list with a lot of development and being done correctly. What do you guys think? Will Kalamazoo join the pack of its sister cities?

For the East End of Downtown Kalamazoo, "buildings would be required to be minimum of two stories tall and no more than two stories larger than adjacent buildings. Developments would also have to be constructed close to street frontage, with parking at the rear or side.

Whenever possible, building and site design would be also required to take advantage of Portage Creek, which cuts through many of the parcels. Balconies, porches, sitting areas and outdoor customer areas should offer a view of the creek.

Bike lanes will be included in the street areas and the street network will be required to offer multiple connective and circular routes to adjacent areas."

A commuter rail line between Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids would be nice.

I think there used to be one!

There's talk of this:

Rerouting trains through Kalamazoo could speed Amtrak travel to Chicago for GR riders

And would they allow passengers to buy tickets just to Kalamazoo, and vice versa?
