I've just moved to Royal Oak. I would like to know about interesting places to visit closed to Royal Oak. Do you have some ideas?

I don't know about closed to Royal Oak, but open in Royal is the Detroit Zoo on 10 and Woodward. For entertainment try the Royal Oak Theatre on 4th between Main and Washington or for Movies the Main Theatre on 11 and Main. Just take a walk on Main St. and Washington between 11 and Lincoln many interesting shops, bars, bars, and restaurants. For books go to Barnes & Nobles on Main & 6th, although I like the Borders up the road a piece on Woodward in B'ham. For shopping don't miss Holiday Market on Main just north of 696, great independent grocer, or Trader Joes on Woodward just south of Catalpa. There are many coffee shops around the area, my favorite is Caribou on Main and 4th street, or check out the Library thats just been redone on 11 mile and Troy. Theres much that I'm missing here but these are the ones that come off the top of my head. Also don't forget Ferndale's Magic Bag Theatre on Woodward and 9, I know the Motor City Anti Freeze blues festival is there tonight with Charlie Muselwhite headlining, he's a gem.

That was wrong, I said take a walk on Main and Washinton from 11 mile to Lincoln. You should walk down to 696, as there are many shops (Pronto's comes to mind) that are south of Lincoln.

angie1: Where did you move from? I just moved from SoCal 9 days ago to Royal Oak too! I'm about 2.5 mi away from Downtown R.O. so I'm just as new to the area as you. From what I've seen, the nightlife looks lively but I have yet to try more restaurants. I've had Stucchi's frozen yogurt and its way better than Coldstone's. I also think I've converted from Starbucks to Caribou Coffee. BD's Mongolian BBQ is good Americanized twist of mongolian bbq. So far I still go in circles and get lost, but hope you have better luck!

If you want a good bakery, check out Herman's on Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets.
The Comedy Castle is located on Troy Street between Third and Fourth too.
I've been around Royal Oak for over 28 years and have seen it change tremendously.

I've lived in Royal Oak my entire life, heres a quick "Best of" list.

Chinese:
Peking House on Washington, no better Chinese food on the planet.

Pizza:
Loui's of Hazel Park is the best Pizza, ever. Only 10 min from Royal Oak.

Italian Food:
Pasquales is the best anywhere. Period.

Burgers/Fries:
Comet Burger (Best sliders around)

Mexican:
Margarita's Cafetel is simply the best authentic Mexican in the state.

Misc:
Detroit Zoo (really in royal oak)

Farmers Market (iconic place, Sat=Produce, Sun=Flea Market)

Frentz and Sons Hardware (an ICON, they have EVERYTHING you need)

David Pressely Cosmetology School (cheapest and best haircuts in town, $8!!!)

Salvation Army Shop (nice cheap stuff, good clothes!)

Palladium 12 Theater (best place to see a movie in the state)

I will add more as I think of them, but this list should get you started. ;-) You can look up most on Yahoo local listings for reviews and maps so you can see I wasn't making up my comments on these places being so good.
