Supposedly they are building it where Buick City used to be. I haven't been down there to see what's been done yet, but I'm surprised you can't see it from I-475. I'm wondering if the "800 jobs" it will create are going to be filled by new hires or laid off workers. I had heard that so many people took the buy-out that they had to hire a bunch of temp workers just to keep up with the production at the few remaining plants they have left here, but I don't know how accurate that is since I don't know anyone who works there anymore.

Is Flint really that bad? Are there any nice neighborhoods there? It seems like there isn't really much of a skyline in Flint either. What about areas like Carman-Ainsworth, Kearsley, Beecher, Burton and Grand Blanc?

Also, from some of the other posts, it seems like there is some racial tension there. Is that the case? is Flint pretty segregated? It seems like the North side of the city is very Black and the rest of the city is pretty mixed.

Yes, the north side of Flint is very "black" as you call it and unfortunately the highest crime area. The rest of the city is pretty mixed. There are still many nice neighborhoods. (It's not Beiruit no matter what you've heard.) Carman-Ainsworth is on the west side which is actually Flint Township and the business hub of the area. Kearsley is in Burton so not actually Flint, but it's nice. Grand Blanc is French for "big white" for a reason. As for Beecher....don't go there...it's in the north end.

I've seen things on here about the Hamady/Westwood Heights SD area. I thought that was a suburban area, but is it a rough area?

The carman ainsworth area over by beecher was always a rough area. I grew up right off of beecher road and went to carman ainsworth schools. Its getting worse I think.

Yes, it's in the north end of Flint. Urban Flint turns into suburban Mt. Morris.

I think they were refering to the Beecher school district. Course the area off of Beecher rd is iffy. Some of the stuff around Mclaren is still nice, but I wouldn't go any further north than that.

Yeah it sure is iffy. Check out some of those apartments off of beecher rd. They're pretty scary at night. I cant remember the names of them. Its been years since i've lived in flint. Moved to Grand Rapids for college and then to North Carolina for work.
