Hello - I may be offered a transfer opportunity with my company to Auburn Hills later this year. I've done extensive research on the Michigan (esp. SE MI) economy and know the facts - not so good across the board. My wife and I did a "site visit" last weekend and looked at some potential housing options so we are serious about the move.

My question is - as she is in the accounting field (although NOT a CPA) with an MBA and 14 years' experience (mostly in banking) - does she stand any reasonable chance of finding work in the Oakland County area? It's not an absolute requirement for us to make the move, but it would be nice to think she at least had a chance of employment up in Michigan. (If not there's always the pizza shoppes.....LOL).

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My husband and I were relocated to Troy, MI last year, HUGE MISTAKE! We took what was suppose to be a temp. gig here at the corporate HQ and now we got stuck here. The housing market here is in big trouble and companies are leaving MI left and right. Really make sure you are moving here for the right reasons, if you are happy where you are at now then I would stay. We moved for the big promotion and regret it everyday!

Well, I'm an accountant with my MBA and am deciding whether or not to take an offer out-of-state this weekend. So, there may be an open job in Ann Arbor.

Seriously, though, there are jobs here. Are they stable? Not likely, but nothing in life is guarenteed. It will be more difficult to find something here than other places. It may take her four months instead of four weeks to find a good fit. However, we're not quite at Grapes of Wrath levels of bad.... yet.
