ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 1 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama prepared Saturday to become the third sitting U.S. president to address graduates at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Obama will stress education and urge students to become leaders in the commencement speech to 82,000 people -- 8,000 of them graduates in the class of 2010, officials said.

Great news for Michigan that he chose to speak here, unfortunatley the protestors chose to try to ruin the graduates day. I live less than 2 miles from the stadium, most of the local streets were blocked off to the public. Every hotel within a 20 mile radius of Ann Arbor is full and most resturants are booked with reservations so it certainly will be good for the local econonmy!

Really?

He was speaking at a COMMENCEMENT ceremony, not "preaching that nonsense". Ignornace is the most dangerous thing in this world, indeed.

When is he going to stop in Detroit? I can't remember if he even step foot since his campaign election run.

Maybe you should look closer at the content of that speech. He defended a larger role for goverment, which in my opinion is the very foundation for socialism. He has proven he believes in this, as he has with the help of congress taken over our auto industry, taken over the banks, and now led the crusade for a goverment takeover of health care. You may support these things, while obvioulsly I do not. That does not entitle you to call me ignorant. Personal insults, and charges of ignorance are a favorite weapon of the far left. I have a right to oppose what people like Obama are doing, and a few below the belt comments from the left will not change my opposition. I will never accept socialism, as I am an American. As an American it is my duty to oppose socalism everywhere it rears its ugly head.

The previous administration '' with the help of Congress '' did basically nothing except chase the boogie man for 8 years .

I wonder what Sarah (not even a 1 term Governor) Palin was talking about a short distance away yesterday ?
And why did the Republican Party let McCain shoot himself in the foot by choosing Palin as a running mate ?

I just love how many Americans rant and rave about socialism like it's something evil. Must mean you don't like all the socialist programs in the country such as: welfare, social security, medicare, public housing, food stamps, school lunch program, FDA, USDA, mental health programs, grants for poor people to go to college, foster homes, etc etc etc etc.

Wow! If a mere commencement speech can arouse this much antimosity in Michigan, just think what would have happened if the president had, in fact, accepted the invitation to speak at that other school instead of at U-M? I shudder the think!
